How to DIY the Viral Strawberry Matcha Iced Latte at Home

Posted on

By now, you’ve probably seen (or tried) the viral Strawberry Matcha Iced Latte that’s taken the internet by storm. We’ve come up with our own take on this lovely layered drink that you can have a crack at making yourself at home - there are only a few steps! Read on to learn how to make your own strawberry matcha latte at home.

You'll need:

  • 1 teaspoon of Matcha Powder (We use The Tea Centre’s High Grade Matcha Green Tea Powder)
  • 100ml of 80 degree water
  • 1 cup of milk (any milk you like, for this recipe we used skim)
  • Ice to serve

For the fruit syrup

  • 1 cup frozen strawberries (you could also use fresh strawberries, or any other fruit you like for that matter!)
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 1 cup water

Method:

Matcha

  1. Because we’re making this Matcha quite concentrated to mix with Milk, the ratio is a bit different than we’d use traditionally.
  2. Combine your teaspoon of Matcha Powder with 100ml of hot water and whisk in an ‘M’ shape in a small bowl - bonus points if you have a matcha bowl and whisk!
  3. Set this aside whilst we move on to our strawberry syrup.

Strawberry Syrup

  1. Pop your strawberries, water, and sugar in a small saucepan and cook on a low heat for 20 minutes, or until the fruit begins to break down and you’re left with a lovely smooth coulis-like consistency.
  2. If it’s not smooth enough for your liking, you can give this a quick blitz in your blender.
  3. Let cool down in the fridge until no longer hot

NOTE: For a cheats version, you could try using a flavoured coffee/milkshake syrup such as Monin, and combine this with the milk instead, however you may not get as vibrant of a colour result.

Assembly

  1. Once cooled, blend or shake as much syrup as you like with your cup of milk to combine until you have a smooth, berry flavoured milk to use as the base of your drink.
  2. Fill your glass with as much ice as you’d like
  3. In your glass, pour the strawberry milk foam (if you have extra, aim to fill your cup ½ to ¾ of the way full to leave room for the Matcha)
  4. Carefully pour your Matcha on top of the strawberry layer - this should stay separate, giving you the layered look similar to the viral drink.
